Leviticus | Questions on Offerings, Atonement, Festivals, and Holy days w/ Dr. Jay Sklar | AWKNG
In the latest episode of the "Ask a Scholar podcast," Dr. Jay Sklar provides insights into the Book of Leviticus with Carla and Mike. Giving an offering was central to the Israelites' relationship with God, serving as a tangible expression of worship and gratitude. These include the burnt offering, grain offering, peace offering, sin offering, and guilt offering. Each had specific purposes and rituals associated with it. The burnt offering, for instance, symbolized complete devotion to God. The entire animal, except for its skin, was consumed by fire on the altar, representing the worshipper's total surrender to the divine. In contrast, the grain offering, often comprising fine flour, oil, and frankincense, was a gift of gratitude acknowledging God's provision. Dr. Sklar emphasizes that providing an offering was not mere religious formalities but was deeply relational, fostering a sense of closeness and dependence on God. They also pointed forward to the ultimate offering of Jesus Christ, who fulfills and transcends these ancient rituals. Atonement involves both purification and reconciliation. The high priest would enter the Holy of Holies to offer a sacrifice for the sins of the people, symbolically cleansing them and restoring their relationship with God.
This ritual underscores the gravity of sin and the necessity of a mediator. The connections between the high priest's role and the New Testament depiction of Jesus as the ultimate high priest who offers himself as an offering for sin. This sacrificial system, while ancient, profoundly illustrates the seriousness of sin and the depth of God's mercy and grace. Dr. Sklar offers valuable insights that can help with contemporary Bible studies. Understanding the historical and cultural context enriches our appreciation of their significance. Moreover, seeing how these practices foreshadow and find fulfillment in Christ enhances our comprehension of the Bible's cohesive narrative. There are several festivals and holy days, each serving to remind the Israelites of God's past deliverance and ongoing provision. Dr. Sklar highlights key festivals such as Passover, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). Passover commemorates the Israelites' deliverance from Egypt, emphasizing themes of liberation and divine intervention. The Feast of Weeks, occurring fifty days after Passover, celebrates the first fruits of the harvest, symbolizing gratitude for God's provision. By examining teachings on offerings, we gain a richer understanding of the biblical story and its relevance to our lives today.
The Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot, recalls the Israelites' wilderness wanderings and God's sustaining presence. These festivals were not just historical commemorations but were integrally connected to the rhythms of agricultural life and the Israelites' spiritual identity. They provided structured times for communal worship, reflection, and renewal. Engaging with Leviticus challenges modern readers to consider the nature of worship, the seriousness of sin, and the importance of community and ritual in spiritual life. It calls us to reflect on how these ancient practices can inform and deepen our own faith journeys. This episode is a compelling resource for anyone involved in Bible study. It's the Image of the Beast that's destroyed Christianity and the world. Rev 13:11-16 & Rev 18 are America. Two horns like a lamb are right-wing Christians and Catholics. Compare Exodus and Rev 13;16 & Matt 5:29. The Mark of the Beast is SIN! What we fill our minds and give our time proves who our God is. It's Jesus or the Beast. The world is the Beast. The Mark is symbolic & spiritual. The Image is real. It's right in front of you. 666=YOU.

    I think the Satan cheated on God with Eve. The whole thing is basically a bad breakup. 😢 God made us to find a new Bride. Is God sexual? Are the Sons of God sexual? They had sex with women, defiled them. The 144,000 are virgins. Never defiled by women. God is intersex, as would be the angels. Why are gays hated more than anyone, especially by our Abrahamic religions? We're undivided souls, like God. Jesus never married. He's a eunuch according to His definition in Matthew 19. Anti-gay and anti-choice are ANTI-CHRIST lies. Matthew 7. JUDGE NOT OR YOU'LL BE JUDGED. Jesus is coming soon for this born-again gay stoner Jew while most Christians are left behind because of bigotry and idolatry. 2Thess2:11 is here. The church is fallen. Trump is lawless. They believe THE LIE. 1946themovie proves the Bible is not anti-gay. Fascists for Jesus are the same as Jihad for God. Hate breaks His law. 1John4:20 ❤ I love my Messiah and He loves me.

    We know what the Bible says about the supernatural or the spirit realm. Many teach about it, that's easy. But who is operating in it? The early church didn't talk about the supernatural, they lived IN it. Who is teaching about it from actual experience with visbale public proof?

    Genesis 1 is ELOHIM (Lucifer and the fallen angels). They made this realm. They made man in their image. (tares) Man is an idol, a trap to hunt angels. Genesis 2:7 the Lord God forms His representative in their system. (wheat_) One Gospel: Gospel (GOOD ANGEL) of Reconciliation. Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself. We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness. If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever. Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM(gods). REPENT FALLEN ANGELS.

    This is Heiser's distorted and erroneous theology. The "gods" in Psalm 82 are not divine beings. How do we know? Because the immediate context tells us. Nowhere in the entire Bible do "gods" judge humans unjustly, so that God now has to judge them. Human judges are described in Psalm 82 based on the immediate context of that Psalm. We know that humans were called "elohim" meaning judges because of passages like Exodus 21:6 and Exodus 22:8-9. Right now I am interviewing the author of the book "The Unbiblical Realm: Refuting the Divine Council of Michael Heiser’s Deuteronomy 32 Worldview." We both came to similar conclusions without knowing each other before, and he cites others who also take issue with Heiser's theology. This is not rocket science here. Heiser simply misread several passages. Case in point. I have heard him say that Deut. 32:8 where he takes as original the reading "Sons of God" instead of "sons of Israel," is related to Deut. 4:19. He then argues that Deut. 4:19 is speaking of "heavenly beings." But anyone reading the immediate context of Deut. 4 starting from verse 15 down to 19 will see the clear reference to God warning against IDOL worship, not worship of any alleged "divine beings." No, Moses is talking in that context about the problems with idol worship of different kinds, and when we get down to verse 19, the flow of thought continues as God warns against a different kind of idol worship, the worship of heavenly bodies, the "sun, moon and stars, all the host of heaven." So one of his key passages he got grossly wrong. The fact that Heiser missed this simple truth from the immediate context speaks volumes, and it also speaks to how people can be blinded by a theology that they can't see the obvious. Deut. 4:19 is not speaking about any kind of real "gods" or "divine beings." God there is warning against idolatry, man made idols (carved images per vs. 16), and idols people could make of heavenly bodies.

And beyond me is how every pope since then can claim to be the vicar of Christ!?? They are no replacements for CHRIST!! (Vicar mean in place of) Christ cannot be replaced, so arrogant!!!

    @AWKNGInc I humbly disagree with the interpretation that the parenthetical statement in Mark 7:19, where Jesus declares all foods clean, includes unclean animals. The context of the passage is only about the ritual washing of hands, not the distinction between clean and unclean animals. If Jesus had meant to include unclean animals, wouldn’t his disciples have begun eating them? However, by the time of Peter’s vision in Acts 10, which occurred 21-22 years after Jesus’ death, Peter was still observing kashrut laws. Also, Paul, toward the end of his run with the Gospel, told Festus in defense of the charges brought against him “I have done nothing wrong against the *_Jewish law_* or against the temple or against Caesar (Acts 25:8). Then later he said, “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or *_against the customs_* of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans” (Acts 28:17). Jewish law and customs included kashrut. I would like to know your thoughts if you care to share them. Thank you.

    • @JonSSteiner
      @JonSSteiner 18 днів тому

      I think it’s worth asking if Jesus actually started eating unclean animals, which, as you nicely pointed out, doesn’t seem to be the case as he denied having broken any customs, perhaps for this very reason to show that he fulfilled the law without any shadow of a doubt (though he wasn’t afraid to show their misunderstanding of the law [cf Mark 2:23-28]). His disciples clearly had difficulty understanding and comprehending a lot of Jesus’ teachings, otherwise Peter may not have needed Jesus to give him a vision 21-22 years later.

How many YEARS after Jesus was crucified did Peter's vision of the sheet occur? 2. Did Peter walk with Jesus? Was he present during the "all foods clean" teaching? Did Peter learn from the risen Jesus? Did Peter receive the Holy Spirit at pentecost? 3. What did Peter say the vision of the sheet was about? I won't give you the conclusion. I challenge you to pray to God and study this. Let's see if you get there through Him.

    Heiser's Failure of Psalm 82, the gods/elohim are Israel (Jacob's decendents)>>>Human, not non-human/spirit beings/angels like Heiser promoted. In the Hebrew in Psalm 82 angels/spirit beings isn't mentioned only "the gods" and "the congregation", the second term being what Heiser (and most other scholars) take as "council", and "the sons of the Most High". What a person has to do is figure out who "the gods" and "the congregation" are. Asaph is the author and the one who wrote the Psalm under the inspiration of God almighty Himself. God would communicate through prophets in the OT. Where a peson like Heiser failed is he could not figure out who the gods/elohim are, he never looked to Jesus. Because Jesus already settled this in scripture. Luke 24:44, Jesus speaking "Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Psalm 82 would be included with this when you look at John 10 Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;>>>>>Jacob's decendents (Israel) humans being addressed John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),">>>>>Jacob's decendents (Israel) humans being addressed. This would also apply to Psalm 82:1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:>>>other translations say great assembly or congregation of the mighty, This divine coucil, great assemply and congregation of the mighty who are the gods/elohim would sing the Psalms and would gather for temple worship, so the gods/elohim would be Israel (Jacobs decendents). The presence of God was in the Temple. Israel was God's chosen people in that time period. Plus Heiser's so called divine council of nonhuman/angels (gods/elohim) never had temple worship, sang the Psalms, never had the law of Moses, word of the Lord never came to them, and God would communicate to Israel through prophets like Asaph and other prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, minor prophets...ect.). When Asaph wrote this Psalm, he was inspired by God for this to be sung in the Temple, of course Solomon's Temple. Another Point>>>> Verse 34, Jesus says...... "I said" "You are gods". What the "I said" is, is a declaration of Jesus as God. The "I said" is no different than an "I am" declaration", Jesus is God and is the Son of God. Another point with the "I said" of Jesus is that He is REPEATING this from the Old Testament which is found in Psalm 82, this is not just a mere qoute of Jesus, but an REPEAT of what God spoke thru the prophet Asaph........... Psalm 82: 1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.” Where God took His place was in the Temple, sacrifices were also offered in the Temple, Israel had a Levitical priesthood with a high priest. Even with the tabernacle God's presence was a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. The "I am" declarations" were directed towards humans, so is the "I said" used towards humans, this is referring to Israel (Jacob's decendents). Since Jesus (Son) is God and is addressing HUMANS in John 10 and is REPEATING what God (Father) said when He spoke and communicated thru the prophet Asaph in Psalm 82, that means the "gods/elohim" in Psalm 82 are also HUMAN (Judges.Rulers.Jews), Jesus Literally answers the question of the "gods/elohim" of Psalm 82 in John 10, Jesus is the fulfillment. This points to the Trintiy as One, the Trinity is One and the Same God made up of THREE persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In this part of scripture are Two persons of God, the Father and the Son. That is why you Pair up " I said, “You are gods" in Psalm 82:6 and John 10:34. In this case this is about 2 persons of the Trintiy (Father and Son) both God. A few verses before Jesus says to His audience is John 10:30 "I and the Father are one." Luke 24:44, makes more sense, Jesus if the fulfillment "Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” This is where Heiser failed, Heiser was a blind guide, Jesus already answered this in scripture.
